Nethy Bridge is situated in the heart of Strathspey, just 5 miles from Grantown. It has been a holiday destination since Victorian times and is surrounded on three sides by the largest remaining tract of the ancient Caledonian pine forest.

With the dramatic backdrop of the often snowcapped Cairngorm mountains and hundreds of acres of Abernethy Forest (RSPB owned) Nethy Bridge spans the lower reaches of the River Nethy a mile before it reaches the River Spey, one of Scotland's foremost salmon rivers.

The Telford bridge itself is in the heart of the village which lies halfway between two wintersports areas, the Lecht and CairnGorm Mountain.

This area has been made world famous as one of the settings for the BBC series "Monarch of the Glen".

Nethy Bridge has been a thriving community for hundreds of years and rumours abound about the history. The fast flowing River Nethy allowed loggers to float their logs, with the help of damns down to the Spey from where they were floated up the Spey to the sea. There is still evidence of this to be seen in the surrounding area today.

There are hostels for backpackers, 2 for groups, lovely family bed and breakfasts, hotels and restaurants.

Explore Abernethy, one of the few Community Ranger bases, is based in Nethy Bridge with an interpretive room for all ages.
