The Warehouse

Built in the first decade of the 20th Century by The Elgin & Lossiemouth Harbour Company, The Warehouse is the sole survivor of three linked warehouse buildings. Some older residents of Lossiemouth remember the ground floor being used by a coal merchant whose horse and cart reversed and unloaded coal brought to Lossiemouth by cargo vessels. During the Second World War, naval commandos were billeted in the upper floor.

By the late 1960’s the horse and cart were replaced by small dumper lorries. The ground floor continued to be used for storage of coal until the 1960’s. In the mid-1990s, the two warehouse buildings adjoining what is now The Warehouse Theatre were demolished for car parking.

When The Elgin & Lossiemouth Harbour Company sold the remaining warehouse at the end of 1999, the immediate task was to make the building wind and water tight. Internal work commenced at the start of 2005 and by September of that year, The Warehouse Theatre became a living entity.

The Warehouse, Lossiemouth

Since then our main auditorium has entertained and amused audiences with a wide variety of acts. With facilities rarely found outside the larger venues we offer professional service to both the performers and the crowd.

Seating capacity is around 100 this very much depends on the way in which the space is configured, more informal arrangements permit greater numbers. Our upstairs room is slowly taking shape as an additional and more informal performance space that includes a licenced bar. We plan to hold a variety of events in this new space and intend to host open mic nights, film, poetry, storytelling and sessions; as well as those acts that suit a more cosy, intimate setting.
