The town of Dufftown is known as the "Whisky Capital of the World". For tourists we have Glenfiddich Distillery, Balvenie Castle, Mortlach Parish Old Church and Auchindoun Castle. The Clock Tower is now a Tourist Information Centre.

HISTORY
James Duff, 4th Earl of Fife, founded Dufftown, or Balvenie as it was initially named, close to the small hamlet of Laichie by the ancient Kirk of Mortlach. The first feu taken up in the new village was n. 3 Balvenie Street. the town had its own gas supply from 1853 to 1892 when the gasworks were demolished to make was for an extension to Mortlach Distillery.
Th Tower was built in 1832 with the clock being added in 1847. It was originally the toen jail, then the burgh chanbers. In 1862 the basement of the Tower was used as a "Druggists Shoppe"
Provost Symon's Hall built in 1897 has been a town-hall, pub, cinema, a bingo hall and now cafe Lord Mount Stephen spent his early years at no. 8 Church Street.
