HISTORY

In the early 19th century the Newtown of Buckie (as distinct from the Seatown) comprised only East Church Street, Low Street, Baron Street and High Street. Buckie South Church was built with stones brought by the fisherman in their boats from the coast between Burghead and Hopeman. The church was opened in 1850.

The Cluny Hotal (the largest in Buckie) bears the date 1880. In 1897 the Square was levelled , many cart loads of earth being removed). The square is now the centre-piece of the town with two churches and a fine war memorial
