HISTORY

Archiestown takes its name from Sir Archibald Grant of Monymust who founded the village on the Moor of Ballintomb about the year 1760. A fierce for on 17th April 1783 destroyed many of the houses, some of which were not rebuilt for more than half a century. The war memorial (6 meters high) was unveiled in August 1920 by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon. The hotel dates from 1900
