Alexander Ross (1814-1925) of Inverness was the architect of St. Andrews Cathedral (1866-69), the first new cathedral to be completed in Britain since the Reformation. This Gothic Revival building enjoys a fine riverside site. How much more impressive might it have been surmounted with 30-metre spires as originally intended. Much of the carving , inside and outside, is by a local firm of stonemasons, D & A Davidson (the main exceptions being the external statues, the reredos and the front) Tea-room in adjacent old Boys' School
