awhitephoto_Piping at Forres 2017Piping At Forres, the European Pipe Band Championships will return to the Moray town next June, for the last instalment of a six year run.

A fun-filled and spectacular day for all the family – it’s Moray’s biggest one-day event – when over a hundred bands compete to be crowned European Pipe Band Champions.

The final Piping At Forres will take place on June 30 in the natural amphitheatre of Grant Park in Forres, and attracts bands and visitors from all over the world.

Drum Majors and Highland Dancers also compete in the championships which are judged by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA).

Sponsored by Benromach Speyside Single Malt Whisky, the event is also a showcase for local food and drink producers while a retail village provides the best of Scottish craft and hand-made goods.

Next year, the organisers will also celebrate Scotland’s Year of Young People and the event will incorporate sideshows, an interactive science tent, bars and a funfair.

But whilst the event itself is held on just one day, Forres and Moray have lots to offer and have become a go-to destination for arts and entertainment.

As well as enjoying the sight and sound of the thousands of pipers and drummers, visitors will also find a rich, cultural landscape from the Cairngorm Mountains to the south, and the Moray shoreline to the north, a spectacle that is one of National Geographic’s top 10 favourite coastlines in the world.

Forres is also a stunning town in its own right and oozes history at every corner boasting a 200-year-old tower, a Pictish carved stone and an historic Tolbooth. There is also much around Moray for all ages and abilities and interests from quad biking to bird watching, from white water rafting to a visit to Benromach Distillery, to playing golf .
