We've received the following request from Richard who is setting up a business renting out equipment to tourism businesses in the Moray area:
" My name is Richard Wilson and I'm working with Highlands and Islands Enterprise to set up a business to rent equipment to parents with families who holiday in the North East of Scotland.
The initial idea is to rent equipment for babies. This would include things like push chairs, baby baths, baby monitors and booster seats, i.e. the sort of equipment that parents are unable to bring with them, or would prefer not to have to travel with. This equipment would be available to rent directly to families via a website, but the intention is also to offer this service to hotels, guest houses and self catering premises which can either rent the equipment or direct their clients to the website.
The hope is that you as owners of holiday accommodation will see this as a service that adds value to your business, by providing your clients with all the equipment that parents on holiday might need, potentially at no cost to the yourselves. The website could also offer you free advertising (e.g. as family friendly hotels).
The intention of this article is find out whether you as owners of holiday accommodation would be interested in this type of service, and to ask you whether you have any ideas on the kinds of products to make available to your clients.
The types of products available for rent need not be limited to baby equipment or necessarily just to parents. I am in the process of carrying out online market research with potential tourists from inside and outside the UK to find out what other equipment or services they would like to have available when they are on holiday in the NE of Scotland. The intention is to find products that would make holiday makers think "Wow! I didn't realise that I could get that sort of thing at a hotel/guest house/self catering cottage!", and which would therefore make your accommodation more attractive to holiday makers.
So, I would be very interested to hear from anyone who thinks that they would be interested in such a service, or who has any ideas on products or services that would add value to their business. I can be contacted on 07818 063537 or via email on info@onholidayrentals.com "
Regards,
Richard

There appears to be a demand for for groups of men or women to enjoy a short break or holiday with likeminded people of the same sex (see article). Think of activity type breaks (such as fly fishing, canoeing, whisky tasting in the evening) and pamper weekends - not stag and hen breaks. Apparently people living in the Greater London area are most likely to book a same sex holiday break.
We're looking to put together some same-sex pacakges to market to the Greater London area. If you're interested to be part of this please let me know by email or post your comments here.
