Events in June 2017

Wondering what’s happening in the Greater Speyside area in June?  Here are some of the events you can look forward to next month!

Family Evening at Knockando Woolmill

For an evening of food, drink and live music book your tickets for the Family Evening at Knockando Woolmill on Friday 16th June, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm.  The event will go ahead, come rain or shine, so make sure you wear appropriate clothing.  Included in the price (£20 for adults, children 12 years and under are free) is a mild chicken curry or vegetarian option (make sure you specify numbers for each at the time of booking).  The Cairngorm Brewery Company and Avvva Gin will be attending the event and offering free samples.  Grab your picnic blanket or chair and enjoy a fun family evening.

Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival, 16th – 25th June

Dust off your walking boots and take a look at the programme for this year’s Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival.  More than 50 events will take place in the area, ranging from river walks to cliff jumping to frisbee golf.  There’s a strong history and heritage focus this year with many walks giving you an insight into days gone by including A Royal Burgh: The Making of Medieval Forres, Secrets of Pluscarden, Moray’s Forgotten Routes and Ghost Towns: Deserted Settlements in Strathavon.  There’s even an overnight walk from Grantown-on-Spey to Forres, with midnight drinks at Dava and a cooked breakfast at Dunphail.  See www.moraywalkingfestival.co.uk for more information on prices and how to book.

Keith and Dufftown Railway 1940s weekend, 17th and 18th June

Now in its 5th year the 1940s weekend at Keith and Dufftown Railway is a popular event, with military displays at Dufftown station and a Home Front at Keith Town Station re-enacting the 1940s.  There’s on-board entertainment from Spiv. the copper and ‘MI5’ – make sure you keep an eye out for the enemy spy…

European Pipe Band Championships 2017, 24th June

The biggest one-day event in Moray, Piping at Forres sees over a hundred bands competing in the European Pipe Band Championships.  It’s a great day out for all the family; in addition to the main event there are funfairs, a craft and retail village selling locally produced goods, and local food and drink producers.  For more information and to book tickets visit www.pipingatforres.com.

Portsoy Boat Festival, 24th-25th June

One of the locations for the recent remake of the 1949 film Whisky Galore, the historic village of Portsoy is home to the annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival.  The beautiful 17th century harbour is the heart of the festival – a 2-day celebration of the area’s maritime heritage.  Expect boats, music, food and drink, and crafts galore!
