You might be surprised at the number and variety of antique shops in Moray and Speyside – even we were! Follow all or part of our antique trail, which takes in a loop from coast to glen and back again. It’s a great rainy day activity and you never know what you might come home with at the end of the day.
1. Auldearn Antiques
A vast collection of antiques and architectural reclamation pieces, based in the countryside two miles east of Nairn. This is a family run business that has been established for more than 25 years, where you can find everything from a new fireplace surround to a vintage dress.
Open 9.30 to 17.00 every day.
2. Cordy Hedge Gallery and Antiques
Part of beautiful Logie Steading, this sunny gallery stocks high quality, original, antique country and folk art furniture by Giles Pearson, who has been in the antiques business since 1987. He is a natural seating specialist who expertly restores rush, split-cane and sea grass seated chairs. Cordy Hedge also showcases works by recent graduates and local artists and designers, as well as selling a wide variety of rugs and offering a picture framing service.
Open 10.30 to 17.00 every day.
3. Grantown Antiques and Collectables
Thanks to input from several dealers, the stock in this shop is changed and added to all the time, so there’s always something new
to take your fancy. The owners do not specialise in any particular period but have a varied selection of restored furniture, pictures, ceramics , glass and collectables etc. Parking is easy and free outside the shop, and there are two car parks within 200 yards.
Open Monday to Saturday, 10.00 to 17.30 (Friday and Saturday only in January and February).
4. Speyside Centre
Take a trip down memory lane and see all those bits and pieces that your Granny used to have. Set in a garden centre and café on the A95 between Aviemore and Grantown, this is an Aladdin’s Cave full of tempting memorabilia. Great for a delve and a rummage. Don’t forget to finish your visit with a taste of their famous clootie dumpling.
Open Monday to Saturday 09.00 – 17.30, Sunday 10.00 – 17.00.
5. Collector’s Cabin
Lots of small collectibles to be found in this shop in Dufftown. Stock includes fossils, coins, medals, antique pistols, signed first editions and original drawings for book illustrations….the list goes on! The shop also offers bike hire, so you can explore the area on two wheels after a good rummage.
Open Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri & Sat 09.30-12.30 and 13.30-16.30, Sun 10.00-14.00, closed all day on Wednesday.
6. Cullen Antiques Centre
Set in an old church, this antiques centre describes itself as having “a large selection of antiques and collectibles for all pockets with items from £1 to £50,000”. The Dalek, antique diving suit and life-sized Japanese diving suit are worth a look. There’s a café and bistro with free wifi, and a salvage yard next door – make a day of it!
Open Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat 11.00 -16.00, Sunday 12.00 – 16.00, closed on a Wednesday.
7. Deskford Garden Galleries
A unique set up in three acres of natural gardens. Wander between the traditional cottages that house a selection of antiques, vintage designer clothing and accessories, collectibles and art. Other buildings contain country furniture, china, glass, jewellery and books as well as pottery and a selection of handcrafted cards and gifts. If all of that sounds like thirsty work don’t worry – there’s a Willow tearoom serving home made refreshments in old fashioned manner.
Open 10.30 – 15.45 daily.
8. Watt’s Antiques
Owned by a couple with over 40 years’ experience in the antiques trade, Watt’s Antiques in Fochabers not only has a large and diverse selection of stock for you to browse, but will also take requests for special items. The spectrum of goods at the shop is extremely varied, from paintings to violins, from barometers to beautiful bronzes.
9. The White Cockade
An Antiques and Vintage shop which can be found on the Kingussie High Street. We specialise in French and Scottish furniture, china, glassware and
books as well as pottery, lamps and collectables.
There is ample on-street parking and a cafe next door.
